If you want to know how scaringly powerful a volcano is, you have to visit The House of Memory.

An abandoned house destroyed during the 2010 eruption of Mt. Merapi, this stopover is a typical route for the Lava Tour. It shows the destructive power of pyroclastic flow - from burnt logs, to destroyed furniture, to avandoned furnishings, and even to cow skeletons.

It is actually a shock to some people but it helps youn understand never to underestimate Mother Nature. You can only imagine the horrors experienced by the locals as Merapi unleashed its fury. It would be wise to walk around here in silence and remember the people who died in that tragic natural disaster.

Be careful of the dust though so it is qise to have a mask on while going around.

A small shop offers souvenirs and some refreshments.

Deep condolence. Merapi erupted strongly early Friday morning. Volcanic ash fell at Cangkringan district and its surroundings 10 km (6.2 mi) from the crater. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) issued an ongoing code red Aviation Volcanic Ash Advisory and reported MTSAT-2 satellite image-derived information indicating a volcanic ash plume to (55,000 feet (17,000 m) – FL550), extending 190 nautical miles (350 km) to the west and southwest of the mountain.[

To see the structure of this home still exist is miracle because this was village before merapi eruption in 2006

Visiting this reminds us about how magnificent the mother of nature can be. There is no entrance fee but you may donate. This museum usually is one of the place included in the lava tour jeep package.

Quite a dreary and depressing place, especially in the darkness of late evening, where they showcase animals and everyday items that were buried when Mt Merapi erupted. There is even a clock that allegedly stopped when the eruption occurred.
