Located over 6 different buildings with English and Indonesian information, this museum holds a large number of masks and puppets which are quite impressive in number and quality. The grounds are also large and immaculate, but oddly this location is by donation only. When you visit, you will see that serious money has and will continue to be spent here so it's a mystery how they stay open. I don't really like masks and puppets, but enjoyed here. It's worth a visit if you have the time

What a hidden gem! Amazing collection of masks from all around Indonesia, Africa and Europe as well. The puppets collection is also something that tells more than stories and history too.
The garden by itself is so serene and enchanted. Such a peaceful place that is so well maintained.
The entrance is free of charge and at the moment of our visit we were the only guests.
Highly recommend!

This place is amazing!!!!!!! See all those exclamation marks? It doesn't seem that many people know about this place but it is a must see. The collection of masks and puppets is unparalleled and even includes some items from around the world. (Nothing from Canada yet but I think we convinced them to add something ????)
This museum is free which makes it even more incredible aaand we had a private guided tour which made it even more worthwhile. I highly, highly recommend making this a stop on any trip to Ubud!

Set in a beautiful and well maintained garden, the museum contains around five medium sized buildings filled with masks, shadow puppets and other art.
It will take around 30 min to an hour to stroll through the exposition.
The entrance is kind of free, but a donation is advised.

They have a beautiful u0026 extensive collection of masks and Puppets, distributed in 7 houses on the premises. Each mask/puppet has a sign with a explanation of the character and in which tale/folklore it is used (in indonesian and english).
The entry is free with donation and I definitely recommend visiting it. Also bring some time with you, since there is a lot to see (unfortunately, I got there a bit late and only got to see a fraction of their collection before they closed).

Even though it's outside of Ubud, it's one of the best museums we saw during our trip. It gives you deep insight to the Balinese culture and puppetry with deeply detailed descriptions of the characters.

Located on a 1,5 acre land. All you see is greens while approaching the areas. No ticket needed, just donation box available on the way out.
Starting as a private collector, the owner then change it to make them available for public viewing.
There are six joglos available for the viewing at the moment, so make sure you have around an hour to spare here. Each joglos has different theme, you get to see different masks from locals n foreign, 3d dolls, puppet string dollls from various countries. My favourite one was the carving on skin puppet doll from China, crafted so beautifully.
The manager would greet n accompany you while explaining stuffs inside each joglo, he can help taking pictures too.
Overall a nice insight n new experience.
