This mosque is one of the more historically interesting sites in Medan, and should get more visitors. It was established on land donated by a Malay philanthropist (Datoek H. Ali), but using money from a local Chinese businessman (Tjong A Fie, whose mansion stands nearby). This mosque was also the long-time centre of activity for the major Islamic organization Jamiyatul Washliyah, which was founded in the little schoolhouse behind the mosque on Jl Hindu. Worth a visit, especially if you can wander around and talk to folks about the history.
