I was happy we could arrange a last minute trip to Jomblang Cave the night before. Contacted Riwan of Jomblang Cave Tours at 9:30 PM the night before on WhatsApp and got an immediate answer and price quote for 6:00 AM the following morning. We got picked up by Toni our driver and guide and did the 1.5 hour drive from our hotel in Yogyakarta. At the location we were assigned as group 5 to go down. They only take down a certain number of groups and only in the morning, presumably to get the sunshine shafts of light during a certain time and for safety. I found the villagers at the site very professional and organized with good condition safety equipment. Jomblang Cave Tours provided everything we needed and even filmed our descent with a stabilized steadicam type phone rig. The cave itself is very muddy and slippery, but a terrific experience to have under your travel belt. If you found this review helped with your travel plans, please hit the like button.

The cave is beautiful, BUT the organisation of tour was non existent! We waited around for 2 hours not knowing what was going on. No talk on what was going to happen. Told to collect wellies which was a soggy wet pile of different sizes and soaking inside, they all had holes in anyway which you later find out in cave.
If you go, take a bottle of water as it's hot and in cave for couple hours.
It's very very muddy and slippy, so don't wear nice clothes. And take a torch! We were told the guide will have one but there is 1 guide to about 20 people and the mud is shin deep in parts.
The cave would benefit from raised path or at least a railing to help and tour company that invests more in the activity then just taking large amount of money.

Fantastic experience. Once in a lifetime.
Requires a vertical glide down to the entrance of the cave. The glide is powered by locals who manually control the length and speed of the glide. However, it was surprisingly stable.

The guide will consolidate about 20+ people before beginning the journey to enter the cave. The walk into the cave entrance requires further descend down rocky and muddy ground which you may slip and fall. Be careful.

Once entering the cave, another 10-15 minutes walk on extremely muddy and slippery rocks lined up to help tourist walk better. The mud is very sticky. Follow closely the person in front to ensure not to use a wrong path ending up in the mud. Once in the mud, it is very hard to get up without external help.

View in the cave is absolutely breathtaking. Once in a lifetime experience which I will not forget. I landed myself into the mud and my phone was submerged into the mud because I took a wrong path, but still worth every trouble and penny for this trip.

For this tour, please note they take 80 people only down in a day to the cave. You basically have to be dropped inside using pulley system. All this is done manually. Also if you think you have done booking before hand at Yogyakarta. I don't think that booking matters that much because it is on first come first basis. The people conducting the tour don't really care about any booking. So try arriving early by 7:45am. I met quite alot of people who had to return the second day after experiencing disappointment the first day inspite of technically having made an earlier booking. About the tour, if you have never been inside a cave, this is quite an experience. Be prepared to get all muddy and stuff. They will give you boots to wear and go inside because it is crazy muddy. The cave is really pretty.
