This hostel was recommended on a German travelling website so we decided to give it a try.

It was best hostel experience I ever had! Fist of all, the place looks even better than the photos. Very colourful, cozy, and stylish. There is so much space provided, especially if you want to hang out with the other guests at the shared rooms. There are two shared bathrooms. I would especially recommend the open-air one, it was nice to take a shower surrounded by trees after a long and hot day.
We got a small room without sink, and it was absolutely enough, if we wanted some space we went to the hammocks.

If you want to grab some food or drinks, you can go a few minutes by foot. Everything you need is close. On our first night we were smart enough to follow Ardys’ (he works at the hostel and is the coolest guy we met in Indonesia so far) recommendation to go to an bar nearby. We met very welcoming locals and listened to live music. Ardy was always available if we had questions, problems or funny stories to share.

Happy Buddha is absolutely the place to be in Yogyakarta, the service is so great you don’t even get concerned about the few ants in the bathroomfloor:)

It’s a hostel with a great personality you feel at home directly!

Such a cute hostel! You have a little private room, 2 shared bathrooms and a shared kitchen. There is a chill area inside and outside (hammocks). The host is very friendly and helpful. He offers you drivers, give you tips for spots,...
In the area around the hostel is a pretty cool street with nice restaurants (could recommend viavia and toscana warung)

All in all theres a beautiful atmosphere in the hostel and the area, we loved our stay :)

For me, the experience of staying at a hostel is this very first time. The place is very well maintained, clean. You can sense the earthly feelings when you come inside the area of Happy Buddha.

So why the three stars? It should've been a one starred review, but thanks to the management, I go for three instead.

I stayed at their bamboo hut, a single bed and all very woody. It's really nice to be honest, very cosy and feels breezy. But the downside is that the protection of this hut from pests wasn't good enough.

Around two o'clock in the morning I got a company, should I call him, Mickey ????. Mickey came several times and curious of human, so it was really disturbing for me that it even touched a few times when I was tryng hard to ignore and just sleep it away. From there, I just couldn't sleep and choose to stroll around wandering the streets of Prawirotaman, just like Jon Voight in Midnight Cowboy.

I complained and asked for a refund. The staff was really helpful in this case and showed a commitment that Happy Buddha will make sure that this problem wouldn't happen again the next time. And I do really appreciate this.

At first this might be the last time for me staying at a hostel. But seeing a staff with a great service like this, I wouldn't mind to test my trust by staying here again the next time ????

Other things worthy of mention:
Super clean, super fragrant, very breezy (great environment to chill), and most importantly: helpful staff. Great service.

Thank you Happy Buddha

For a low budget hotel, you can get surprisingly high clean facilities and very cozy atmosphere for resting. Perfect for getaway or relaxing purpose (AC-room but no-TV and non-smoking, so you either rest inside or enjoy nice outdoor activities with yourself or your friends, or other guests).
Breakfast is available and the hotel also offers motorcycle-rent per day to help you explore Jogja in the most convenient way.
The only downside is that the hotel has no parking facility, so you may need to find your parking-lot somewhere near.

Incredibly nice place to stay - we stopped by a lot of guest houses and hostels in yogya and this one is definitely the best. the private rooms are very nice, the breakfast is delicious and the team is very helpful and kind. Will definitely book there again when I come back!

Great for the price BUT bathroom was very smelly. Breakfast was amazing, they prepare crepes every morning. The staff was also wonderful and very helpful. The only other con is that at 4 am there is praying and chanting, our room happened to be right beside it. The hostel provides ear plugs and they let you know first thing at check in, but that is something I would definitely advise to consider when booking. Other than that, location is good and they also provide motorbike (scooter) rental for one day (60k rand).

Got myself a private room with a private bathroom, which was okay for the price. But the morning before I checked out as I was about to take a shower I noticed not one, not two, but *four* cockroaches in the bathroom. And another two in the bedroom for a total of *six*. I’m sorry but that’s five too many for me (I’m a usually tolerant Indonesian). Either you should do a thorough cleanup or call a shaman. Anyway the hammock was nice tho
