Wow, I've heard about this dish so many times and finally got around to trying it. Even though it's far from the boarding house, if I go to Kotabaru, I have to eat here. Of course i ordered the grilled chicken, the portion was just right which consisted of grilled chicken, rice, cucumber and basil and two types of chili sauce. That's great! I decided this was a delicious grilled chicken with the spices soaking through. You can sit on the carpet or on a chair, only open until 07.30 pm, the price is very affordable for students, only IDR 13,000 - IDR 14,000. I will come back here again. I like it!

Beware for the queue, cause it gets really busy during dinner hours. The sweet-glazed chicken and its sambal were superb, worth to try.

An honest chap u0026 his Ayam Bakar

I’ve never written a review before. This is my first, just cause this place is the closest thing to heaven in Jogja (to me).

Chicken is moist and tender, with a perfect combination of savory and sweetness. I ordered three additional pieces of chicken out of fear I’ll never taste anything like this again after leaving Jogja. My mum and wife thought I was mad - I’m not. They are for not ordering more.

Plain white rice always resonates with my Chinese blood. But this one tasted exceptional after the sweet and strongly flavored Indonesian food we encountered frequently.

The deep fried flour is crisp, light and very mildly salted. Just the way I like my potato chips.

The chili is the glue that binds everything together - the chicken, white rice and fried floor. I can’t take spicy food well, but I was abusing myself throughout cause it’s just not ayam bakar without it.

Lastly, the owner. Even with the language barrier we somehow managed to understand one another. We paid after our meal as with all the other patrons. He charged us the same as the locals and smiled warmly when I said ‘I’ll be back tomorrow’.
