Love the historical building in the colonial era which turned into a museum. Located near Tanah Abang Market. Outside of the museum collection, this place is a kind of oasis in the middle of Jakarta crowds and traffic. lots of pleasant shady spots under the trees to chill or read some books. I hope more visitors to come.

The Textile Museum building was constructed in the early 19th century. Initially it was a private house of a Frenchman. The building was later sold to Abdul Aziz Al Mussawi al Musa Khadim, a Turkish consul for Batavia. In 1942, the building was sold again to Karel Cristian Cruq. The building had been used as the headquarters of Barisan Keamanan Rakyat ("Front of People's Safety") during the struggle for independence period. In 1947 it was owned by Lie Sion Phin who rented it to the Department of Social Affairs which modified it into an institution for elderly people. Afterwards the building was handed over to the city's government. This museum exhibits many kinds of Indonesian traditional weaving such as Javanese batik, Batak ulos, and ikat. There are also displays of traditional weaving instruments and equipment for textile production. Too bad i visited this museum during its renovation for an event that will held next.

Another best museum in Central Jakarta (or west?), located close to Tanah Abang station. It's an old house, so many trees there, very heartwarming.

It costs around 5k-10k for general admission. They only accept JakCard for payment, but if you don't have it, they will help you by using their card. Parking area is quite wide, and it's free, so don't worry about parking area.

Museum's main building is located on left side. It contains various textile collections from all around Indonesia. It's very well placed and managed, and very complete as well. There's also a batik gallery on the right side. Actually it's a very educative place to visit.

Such a fun experience to know abt any kind of Indonesia Batik. And also known abt how to make batik by own self. It will be charged 40 thousands rupiah for experience making batik. And the museum ticket only 5 thousand rupiah

Had a great experience in here! Tbh, the exhibition was okay, but the making batik workshop was fun! It's a great way to introduce Indonesia's culture, especially to my Japanese friends. Since we came late, we didn't make the pattern by our own, and use the existing one. The staff was super nice and welcome us.

Entrance fee : 5k
Batik workshop : 40k

The batik workshop is located at Pendopo Batik. You can ask people in there for the direction since it's located in the back of the museum. The workshop close at 3 p.m so you should be there before 2 p.m. since the duration of making batik is approximately 1 hour. You can bring home your own creation of batik and the canting.

Highly recommended! For further information you can check their instagram. Their admin is quite fast response and nice ????

Very beautiful premises; situated right beside a very busy thoroughfare. However, the display inside main building is rather bland. Needs to be better curated. The second building on the right houses a rather eclectic contemporary collection that's more pleasing to look at. A library full of textile books rounded up the back of the building. If you are into peace and quiet, this would be a perfect place. Is it kid-friendly - depends. Most kids would probably find the museum a tad boring. It's an acquired taste - admiring old textiles, that is.

Nice place to visit and explore the new side of batik from history. You can try to make batik tulis by yourself too!
