Israel's coaching is not great if you are looking for a private surf coach a lot of water time together, close and nuanced guidance, especially if you are a newby like us, which we didn't know when we first met him.
I would not recommend Israel as a private coach because of rigidity, inability to listen and frankly bad attitude. Instead of asking what could have been done better, he accused us of indecency and took a very defensive stance, when we shared how unhappy we were.
I hired him and got charged full amount upfront for 5 days of private coaching for my son and I, unfortunately experienced a massive misalignment on expectations, little of practice and water time, also quite a rigid program even though we shared upfront we are the beginners and needed building our skills ground up.
In the first paid day we were taken to the spot and asked to surf, although we did not know much on how, Israel stayed for 1 hour on the beach taking videos and pictures, then he came to the water, surfed a little without guiding us. Then we went to the Fetch surfing school premises, where we expected video analysis to happen. Instead, we never saw the videos or pictures and got a one liner analysis - you need to work on the basics. Which is what we already knew when we started, so one day wasted.
The second paid day started early in the morning with the paddling theory, we spent 1.5h talking about paddling techniques. After which we assumed we'd go together to practice - instead we heard that we have to go and practice by ourselves, so again, no water time with Israel, we surfed on our own. Then later we had 1h of surf motion (surfskate) training as a group with other 3-4 people, but hey, surf motion when you can't even paddle or pop-up, not the best use of time. Again, another day wasted.
So we were left with 3 days of training with Israel and had to make a call - should we change and ask for a refund or we'd continue and hope for an improvement, we opted for the first path. We asked Israel to convert the remaining days in to another coach fees (who was an affiliate of his), so that at least not to loose the money and he doesn't have to refund. Unfortunately things did not go as planned, we wasted the first 2 days and we had to pay extra for the new coach, as Israel did not agree to cover the cost of a new coach, who costed a fraction of what we paid.
Well, lesson learned, money lost, but hope someone can avoid our mistakes by simply reading this.
