5 Us Against The World - 5 years ago
We were staying in Villa Berawa so naturally, we had breakfast at the restaurant and from the very first bite we decided to come back for full meal. In an increasingly popular area, with all the new vegan places a surf crowd attracts, Dapur Berawa is a staple for a more traditional experience with great service.
For our dinner we ordered to order the Nasi Goreng and Ayam Betutu. Nasi Goreng is pretty straightforward dish but we were surprised to find it came with chicken nuggets, which added a nice crunchy element to it. The big winner though was the sambal (chili sauce)! Seriously, that stuff is addictive! They make it in-house and grind it to order with a special mortar and pestle, so make sure you order that.
Ayam Betutu is steamed quarter chicken with a typical Balinese spice rub. The chicken was tender with the spice rub giving it a flavorful kick. It was accompanied by a corn-based salad and a cone-shaped mountain of steamed rice. All this in a woven bamboo plate. Five points for presentation!
We also ordered some Vietnamese style spring rolls which we devoured as soon as they hit the table, as evidenced by the lack of pictures. For drinks, we tried the Papaya and Watermelon juices, both naturally sweet and refreshing. If you have room for dessert, Pisang Goreng (banana fritter) with a side of vanilla ice-cream is a must!
All in all, Dapur Berawa stands on its own as a great dining option for anyone staying around or passing by Berawa beach and looking for some local food. You get friendly service, great ambiance and a delicious home-cooked style meal at an affordable price. Not to be missed.
