For people who prefer sweet food, you definitely should try it. But, it is not my cup of tea. It is too sweet for me. I can’t even finish it, too bad.

One of the best traditional foods in Yogyakarta is "Gudeg" and this restaurant provides it in a lunchbox style, too.
There is a restaurant-like area behind outside kitchen, so you could dine in? I only used to-go.
"Gudeg Nasi" is the only choice, but there are a variety of toppings and condiments combination. However, I guess basic ingredients are same and fixed. I recommend you add an egg.
There are several "Yu Djum" spots in Yogya, and you could choose wherever available. I guess menu is the same.

It was a very late post, I visited Yu Djum branch situated on Laksda Adisucipto Street, Nov 2021, but I could remember it well.
It was my wife's family favorite, so it is a must for us to have it every time we visit Yogyakarta. No other Gudeg seller considered.
We visited Yogya on a staycation in November 2021, and you may guess, we visited Yu Djum.
I am a Central Javanese, born in Purwokerto, raised in Semarang area, and love Gudeg, but not this overly sweet, and very dry dish of young jackfruit cooked in rich coconut milk and spices. I love Sambal Goreng Krecek, ( Spicy Cow Skin cooked in light broth and chilies) but not their dry version of it...
It had been a dry, hot, humid afternoon in Yogyakarta when we had it for lunch...
I could barely finish the meal due to its large portion, intense sweetness and dryness of the dish.
This kind of gudeg is suitable for giveaway so you could bring it in a long car trip or flight, but not for dine in in a hot and humid afternoon in Yogyakarta.
It is suggested to enjoy Yu Djum in a morning, late evening or cool rainy day.
I prefer a moderate sweetness of gudeg, with savoury and juicy sweet young jack fruit, juicy chicken opor ( chicken cooked in coconut milk and spices ) and off course, the cow skin cooked in chili broth ( sambal goreng krecek).
This might be the most famous gudeg brand from Yogya, but not the tastiest one in my humble opinion.
The branch service is up to the standard, not giving us a bad service, they just do their duty.
If you are in Central Jakarta, you could find Yu Djum in Sarinah Food Court.

The legendary gudeg in Jogyakarta. It is taste good but a little too sweet for my taste buds and too dry for me. And the place is really small

I was taken to this place as it was said that this was the finest place for gudeg in Yogya. But there was no gudeg only tourist items, but no food. A few 100 meter further on there was again a Gudeg Yu Djum and here we had our gudeg. I have been eating gudeg many times as it is my favourite food. But at this resto it was sooo sweet, to sweet to be called gudeg. I didnot like it.

Gudeg Yu Djum is the most popular gudeg in Jogja. They have plenty branches around the city. Some are located on the tourist areas. Including the one I visited couple days ago. Located on the busiest street of Jogja - Malioboro, this branch is visited by mostly domestic tourists. A small eatery near to the main mall on the street. Always crowded at the meal times.
Went here with my two Spanish friends who want to taste traditional food from Jogja while they were visiting Malioboro. I took them here and ordered two dishes. It turned out that they like the sweet jackfruit and the chicken but not the spicy cow hide. For me, as a local, the taste in this branch was not as I expected. The meals didn’t look fresh and appealing. Quite dissapointing. Taste is better at the main branch.
The service was not nice as well and the price is overrated. 18K for the cheapest meal to get a small portion of white rice, sweet jackfruit, and cow hide, without chicken.

The authentic and popular specialty food in Jogjakarta among tourist called Gudeg.
It is made from jack fruit stewed for several hours with palm sugar and coconut milk and normally served with egg, chicken, tofu/tempeh, sambal and a stew made from crisp beef skin.
But its too sweet for some people and might not like it.
Has several branch around Jogjakarta and also offered a special package for take away as you can give it as a souvenirs/gifts
