My most favourite place when I go to Solo. They're just some incredible artists who try to safe Wayang Orang Sriwedari on this modern day. Even now there is dispute between Solo's Government with person who claim about Sriwedari's land. Last time I visit it, it costs Rp. 10.000. Very Cheap

I spent the weekend in Solo and it was very difficult to find activities other than culinary here. I finally checked solo social media if there was a wayang orang show here. The ticket price is only IDR 10,000. I saw the show starting at 19.30 WIB, arriving there the new show started at 20.30 WIB until 00.00 WIB. The show was very interesting, but 'cause I don't understand Javanese, it was very difficult for me to understand the storyline but I enjoyed the show. A simple place like a multipurpose building, there is ample parking and toilets. I suggest having dinner first before watching. Disability access is very easy.

This was the highlight of our trip in Surakarta! Definitely would recommend this to people eager to see and experience Javanese culture and arts. The ticket was incredibly cheap (10k for a 2 hour performance... For comparison, we paid 100k for a 1 hour gamelan performance in Ubud, Bali). However, the quality was amazing for that price. Don't let the dark and poorly lit entrance deter you (something to improve for the management team). This is a must-see in Surakarta.

Need more maintenance especially in the external hall, and need more effort to make more interesting culture destination, especially the system to book the entry ticket, please more attention for developing traditional culture.

They do daily shows starting at 8PM and have different plays each day. The set and costumes were colourful and performance exquisite. Though you won't understand the lines if you don't speak high Javanese but it is still an enjoyable night out experiencing the gorgeous local culture. Tickets for VIP seats are only 10k Rupiah and it can get pretty crowded on Saturdays.
Air conditioning can be an issue but nothing that a handheld fan can't solve. Definitely a must if you're in the city.

A traditional Javanese play, more similar to Peking opera, consist of dance, singing and martial art sequence. Expect two hours playtime. A slow pace show. The show doesn't have narration aside from Javanese language, expect going lost in translation ????
