Peaceful. Christian is such a beautiful person, no wonder he likes living up there, because he was on seven different vessels that went down in the sea years ago! The hospitality of the staff was first class. The Volcanologists hill was sensational for photography, be quick though, those clouds move very quickly! I haven't been there for thirty seven years, but Kaliurang and Christian will always be in my heart, and it is the one place in the world I would love to visit again.

An absolute hidden gem near the Merapi volcano and national park. We came here to have breakfast and it was delicious. There are quite a lot of options for a low price. We were served by lovely staff and the location was peacefull.

Restaurant: Super tasty chicken soup (Garorica and Paniki). The clear highlight. Other food was good, but more love could have been put it in, such as the fried chicken that was just some pan fried remnant of a chicken breast junction without any skin. Regardless, I would recommend this place.

Hostel: I did not actually stay here, but I did peak inside the rooms. They were spartan but clean. The entire place is like a blast from the past, in a good way. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!

Christian and his brothers are very good guides to trek around Mt merapi.
The morning trail is not difficult and take you around Mt.merapi and important view points from 2010 eruptions, they have a lot of story to tell about the surroundings and the history of the area.
You can stay overnight, the room are simple but very cheap.
Food at the Cafe is great (we had the paniki and it was awesome). The lunch after the trek is perfect!

We speed two night in this hostel and we loved the time we spend there... christian is so kind and nice, the food there is amazing. His brother who is the guide for the treck on the mount merapi is great too. The bush for going see the volcano is very beautiful. Thanks you so much Christian for this very nice time.

Merapi has been closed to visitors since the 2018 eruption but we did a sunrise trekking tour around the foothills and the base of the village which offered some great views and knowledge on the villagers' life. Christian was such a lovely host who gave us a lot of food after the tour and his son Majid took good care of us during the hike.

I didn't sleep in the hostel, but I signed up for the Merapi tour. Early in the morning it was a bit cloudy, but shortly after the sky cleared up and the magestic mountain was revealed. Both brothers are very kind and the stories about the volcano are really interesting. The lunch is delicious too! Lots of books and memories in the hostel, which makes it a very cozy place.
