You can order the asem-asem in two ways. First is to have it standalone and order a separate bowl of rice. Second is to have the rice mixed with asem-asem together. I recommend the second option as mixing them together is the best way to enjoy it. But you can always get the first way, and mix it yourself anyway.

To make it better, buy the prawn fritters and eat it together with the asem-asem.

Legendary humble restaurant. Top menu is asem asem, which so tasty. They also provide nasi rames and other tempting snacks that serve on the table. Even in the morning time, the place usually full of people breakfast.

My favorite eating house when I visits Semarang..love their fried belanak fish, fried shrimp, squid, pork satay, gambas soup, bitter gourd, omelette and of course asem-asem koyor…but unfortunately sometimes little difficult to park my car..

We go there at Sunday 12.30 PM, the place was so crowded.
We buy ikan belanak and asem-asem koh liem

Asem-asem koh liem: the meat was so good and not really sour, price around 42k
Ikan belanak: we had small fish

Asem asem in Koh Liem are quite legendary in Semarang. Unfortunately, they still decide to make the asem asem little too sweet, which might be fine for the local, or perhaps not anymore. Who knows.

But if you don't like sweet soup like me, skip this one. But do order other things like Koyor (which a mixed between soft and tough tendon when I ordered it) or Cah Pete. Or other things that they serve, generally they taste good.

Service is always good and friendly. Tables are still setup like 30 years ago, probably the same table. But note, parking could be a problem, so avoid normal lunch time. They have a branch not far, but I've never been there, could be an alternative.
