It is a local dish from the surrounding area of Semarang. Rice with a thin coconut milk sauce, lightly spiced, served with meat and other condiments. The stall opens around 5 PM in the afternoon and closes around 11 PM in the evening. Famous fried tempeh and rice crackers are a favorite companion of the dish.

A must eat at this road side stall. You will be tempted for second or even third servings … that is if you can stomach it. Good choice and reasonably cheap.

Nasi gandul (from Pati) which I thought is papaya with rice turns a delicious dish with light coconut milk soup topped with various beef parts.
Otak, kikil, koyor, babat, daging, usus, limpa, paru... and egg.

I like the crispy tempeh to accompany nasi gandul.
The seller said, free tempe every Thursday. Hhm... tempting!

It's OK as my first nasi gandul experience. It taste similar with soto with coconut milk broth, but the meat options are sweet.

I didn't expect to have such a yummy treat when I went here. I hardly have nasi gandul in Jakarta. So, nasi gandul is basically some sort of rice dish with soup, all in one plate. You can choose the toppings yoh like from beef, lungs, livers, to, my favorite, brains. And the result is a bowl of warm deliciouusness. You can find the stall in front of Telogorejo hospital. And oh, they have shrimp crackers and perkedel/potato savory cake too.
