Was taken here by an my local friends who knew I was missing Indian food. Friendly place and hospitable staff. but for Indians its far from Indian food. The food is more Malay / Indonesian. But good food. I had ordered butter nan, but it seemed like a pizza base warmed with butter. defiantly no Tandoor oven here. But as it caters to more of a local crowd, my friends order biryani which they relished.....but to me it was more Indonesian.

Been to many Indian restaurants in India and other Asian countries and to food (gravy + naan) here would propably end up in my top 5 of lesser experiences. The service was good but the naan, didnt taste and look like a proper naan, bake it longer the net time. The curry was spicy but missed the thickness and the flavour explosion.

If I miss indian food in Medan I always go to this place. I like the decoration which makes me feel like in india. Other good point it sets in a calm neighborhood.

As for the food all things are great here...the naan, chicken curry, lamb curry, the basmati rice, anything you can say is good here.
The price is also reasonable.

This resto is serve authentic Indian food from North and South.
Seating area only for 32 persons.
They serve many menu, such as snacks, briyani, vegetable briyani, thali set, fried rice, dosei, naan, martabak, cane, curry, non veg curry, many drinks also lassy as well.

Very tasty. Real Indian.
Good hospitality
Fast.
Price medium.

I ordered the Mutton Briyani and the Rose Drink. Of all the previous food I had eaten, the Briyani I had was by far the most horrendous in its quality and presentation. At the least, the curries and Mutton were lukewarm, although the rice was hot. Yet the briyani was shaped into a 'container-like' form that looked as if it came from a microwaved, plastic container. Taste wise, the rice wasnt freshly cooked, yet had much moisture in it that it felt mushy to eat. The mutton was tough and chewy, and not hot, signs it wasn't (heated-up) prepared properly. The Rose Drink was overly sweetened with the rose flavour not prevalent in drink.

No doubt, my visit to Cahaya Baru would be the first and last time into the establishment with its horrendous cuisine.
