This traditional market spans along Jl. Pasar Terong and is considered to be among the most visited, referred and important markets in Makassar.

It can be accessed from Jl. G. Bawakaraeng and Jl. Masjid Raya.

You can find almost any household needs here including kitchen utensils, cooking ingredients, fish, vegetables, fruits, and also clothing.

In case you're looking for eggs, the egg center is located at the entrance from Jl. G. Bawakaraeng.

No toilets available here but you can go to Masjid Raudhatul Muflihien if you need.

Well I see this place as a perfect place for tourist to explore Makassar rather than it’s touristic place. I mean here you can see how real Indonesia is. Once I bring some of my international friends to visit this place and they are shock (in positive mean) for what they found. This traditional market can be accessed from two side and if you are a tourist make sure you explore it from one side to the other. It’s a really good place for street photography because people would be very welcome for you. You also can go around and interview them about the history of this traditional market which would make your exploration better. Happy exploring! Don’t forget to shop too.

I could find many kind of fruits and vegetables that are not available on another traditional markets in town here, with relatively good price and quality. The problem is that I took a pretty long time for a parking space around. The clothes section are very stink and dirty.

A little bit messy. This market needs improvements for parking space, the cleanliness and arrangement of kiosks. Better administration of the market will boost the wheel of people's economy. We suggest that the City Administration of Makassar put more attention to the needs of a proper facilities of "Terong" market to be a proper shopping place for all the people, either the have or needy. You can imagine how much money circulate here everyday. If the place is getting better, it will create a multi-player effect to the people's ecomy. Thanks for reading.

Probably the most famous traditional market in Makassar. I've went to this place since 5 years ols or maybe younger. My mother liked this place and has always been her first choice to buy raw food ingredients.
The smell is so attached with this place. When someone say its name, first thing always come to mind is the smell.
This place is always crowded. Sometimes to walk through is a challenge itself, must do zig-zag between old ladies with plastic bags in both hands, must avoid black smelly mud and water, must watch out the pickpockets, must be brave enough to cross through water canal via old rotten wood bridge, etc.
Price here is always negotiable, therefore no negotiation means you could buy double price or more than it should. Crazy!
A two story market building is located at the center of this place. It can only accommodate maybe 20% of total sellers here or maybe less. But who would want to go to second floor if thing yo like is anywhere on ground?
My lecturer is the architect if its market building. He is still now the Mayor of Makassar.
