The temple itself is good but everything else is basically tourist traps.
Bring umbrella/hat and water. It can get quite hot.

The site is a UNESCO « world heritage » since 1991. Ok but even it is an international treasure, there is a local price (4USD)… and a foreigner price (25USD).

This is a tourist trap. You can’t climb to see the reliefs, you can’t even approach the monument.

We came on monday, paid thé full price And barely See the monument And were not allowed to approach. No discount. 25$ for what you see in this picture. Next Time we ll just read the Wikipedia article, the expérience will be more enjoyable And less expensive.

I have to say, i got better experience at borobudur compared when i was visited years ago. However, it needs little improvement here and there.

Upon arriving at the parking lot, you will be surrounded by sellers/hawkers. They offer souvenirs, rent stroller, food and toys.
⚠️ Parents, be careful with toy hawker. They tend to put the toys on your children's hand, so you have to pay for it. ⚠️

Even at the weekday, borobodur packed by lots of people. So please prepare in advance.

You can find vending machine. Payment by QRIS. But it's better to bring your own water bottle.

to get out of the temple, you have to take detour of souvenirs market. I know it's kind of upselling strategy so tourist spend more money there, but i hate it :( just get me out already!

The tourists are discriminated. They have to pay 7 times more than the locals. Even if you have Kitas but the immigration is holding it and your daughter is local - if you don’t look like a local - they will still charge you much more. Even in Bali they don’t make such a difference between a local and a tourist.
