At Plantage de Grote Tuin you will receive a very detailed explanation and tour of this former colonial plantation. The well-known cash crops and herbs are grown here: coffee, palm oil, pepper, cloves, etc., and so on. After the plantation part, the guide will guide you through the rice fields to the more cultural and commercial part of the tour. After the opportunity to buy a souvenir (such as spices and coffee), the youth gives a small song and dance performance. Although touristy, it is certainly fun and educational.

Indonesian tourist trap number 10... after arriving you get the coloured flower pinned on so the lady at the cashier knows which guide she needs to tip after the visit.
Then a little show where 2 young children are (forced) to perform a little dance. The girl did this with grace, the poor little boy was trembling and clearly upset that he needed to perform before the tourists.
Then comes the visit through the garden, where gullible tourists are made to believe that 3 coconut trees and 5 coffee bushes are sufficient to sustain the plantation.
After the visit you get offered a cup of tea or coffee and then you can buy the so called “organic and locally produced spices u0026 produce” at overinflated prices.
Then you get to pay for the visit, and depending on the greediness of your guide the appropriate “bulé-price” is levied, expect to pay between 100.000 to 200.000 per person for this “privilege”.
I’d give 1 star but to be honest the guide in the garden did his best so I settled for 2 stars.

It's such a nice thing to do the plantation trip. Moreover, Kalibaru is well known area as a hug coffee, rubber, cacao plantation. This place offers knowledge of them. Tourist know know how coffee, rubber, coconut, vanila, tumeric grow. Local guide explain in detail the type of plantation. In addition, they demonstrate how to make Sugar Palm (Brown Sugar). The local guides are so friendly persons. The end of the trip, kids perfom gandrung dance (banyuwangi traditional dance) and give some attraction using coconut leaves ☺ seriously, it's very fun tho and recommended place to be visited ???? have a grrat holiday!!!

Very nice place to visit. The owner herself gave us a tour of the plantation ( in dutch). Such a beautiful place. Great explanation about all the different plants and trees. Got to see cacao, coconut, coffee, rubber, vanilla, ricefields,...tasted coconutwater , climbed a coconut tree... Drank some delicious coffee and you have te possibility to buy the different spices after the tour.
Price: 150000rp per person.

Really informative tour, we learnt about coffee, palm sugar, cocoa, cinnamon, pepper, rice, ginger and many others. The plantation itself is also really beautiful to photograph.

Fantastic tour among coconut trees, pepper, cinnamon, rice fields, ginger, nutmeg, cocoa and more. You will learn how palmsugar is made. Really educational!
