Benn, the owner and his staff, do an amazing job: They pick you up in the city, drive you to the homestay, organise the entire trip to Ijen (including driver to the vulcano and personal guide, who accompanies you down into the volanco to see the bluefire, they provide equipment etc.) and they are on top of that: very friendly, welcoming and want to give you a great experience.
the rooms and breakfast are basic and okay, you have to get up at 12.30 am anyway to go to Ijen, so you won't be able to sleep for long:)
we definitely recommend this place including the tour, you will not regret it. Also, Hashem, our tourguide was amazing.

5 stars for the excellent hospitality, delicious breakfast, and value for the money.

The room itself was basic and tired, and quite warm (the fan helped fall asleep). En-suite bathroom covered the most basic needs. The place is quaint - quiet and nearly by itself off the main roads. Fast and reliable internet.

The breakfast was a standout - some real Indonesian food instead of the same boring omelet or toast most places offer.

Benn, the host, was the real standout. Super nice and happy to share stories. Spoke excellent English and knows the area very well.

Highly recommended if you’re on a tight budget.

Our host Beny is awesome! He is very talkative and speaks excellent English. He will pick you up from the train station and help you out with anything. He organised a very nice and affordable Ijen tour with a sulfur miner as our guide. Every morning his wife will make this enormous and delicious local breakfast. The rooms are simple, but they have a nice big fan that cools down the room to a very comfortable sleeping temperature.

As other reviews suggest, Benny is the star of this place! Amazing host who you can bond with straight away. He took us to somewhere for lunch when we arrived, offered us his bike and then drove us to the ferry later on! He also does great work in the community helping to teach English to the local miners so they can transition to being a guide. Breakfast was insane. Thanks Benny.

Instead of booking through Hostelworld I discussed a tour for the next day over the phone with Benny. Because of some miscommunication from my part there was no room booked for us. Benny was so friendly to allow us to leave our bags behind and crash on the couch for a few hours. After the tour, a nice breakfast was prepared for us. Highly recommended, great overall experience!

A really good place to stay in Banyuwangi. We had a chat with the owner and got interesting insights into the culture and life in eastern Java. He also helped us to get a tour into the Ijen crater with a former sulfur worker, definitely recommend! While the accommodation is simple, it got everything you need and the price is very fair. If you are looking for a place where you can get in touch with locals, don't look any further!
