We really wanted to love this hotel and give it a 5/5 but unfortunately we had disappointments that I think should not happen when you pay a certain price, especially in a 5-star hotel.
The major point was regarding the bed. We kept getting some brown stuff falling on our bed and pillows from the canopy and/or the roof (see photos). I get that we are in an open environment and that some things are unavoidable (like insects) but I think that cleanliness could have been better cause all that brown stuff was inside the canopy and when we shook it, everything was falling on the sheets. The canopy smelled really bad and was really stained (see photos) there were holes in it that looked like cigarettes burns and the first day we even found a small poo from whatever animal which was very obvious and showed that the room wasn't inspected in detail before checking in guests. Sheets, pillows and towels did not smell the best either, as if they were still humid and I was expecting a very clean scent. I feel essential oils could be diffused in the room (there is a diffuser but doesn't diffuse any smell).
By the way, it was written that towels needing to be changed should be put in the bathtub but the housekeeping changed it even twice a day which I think is unnecessary, even though we just hanged them still wanting them for the next day.
Other things: bed mattress is saggy in the middle, I found the pillows were all too big (when usually they are several sizes to fit all guests' preferences) and I expected a fridge in the room for that price. One of the outside lights cannot be switched off which made it impossible to have a full dark room.

Apart from that, I really want to point out that all the staff was particularly kind, caring and respectful. The food is exquisite even though I think that some prices are too high for the quantity. The place itself is a gem, what has been done is work of art, whether it is by the pool area, the constructions or the beautiful garden.

I hope you understand my comment as I way of helping to improve and not as a free criticism.

The Fivelements Bali was one of the best stays ever on a vacation. The natural environment was great for relaxing. The vegan cuisine was very good. The spa treatments and staff were great. The entire staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. I can't say enough great things about the Fivelements. I seriously recommend anyone looking to a relaxing stay in a natural environment away from the hustle and bustle and can eat vegan for the stay, to make this Retreat your prime choice.

Not sure about this place being a five star hotel, however definitely worth staying there.

In my opining, it felt more like a spiritual retreat than a luxury hotel.
Nothing ostentatious, luxurious or fancy, the hotel is nestled in nature close to a river and a small waterfall.
Its location promotes relaxation and peace.

The room we had was lovely, not too big yet well decorated and matched the natural elements. No fridge or mini-bar.
The shower was semi-outdoor and really enjoyable.
The staff are really sweet and helpful, however not intrusive.
The hotel offers numerous services like free yoga classes in the morning and a free shuttle to and from the monkey forest.
The facilities available are also decent from the serene outdoor pool to the small but well equipped gym.
The restaurant is just sublime, I reviewed it separately and all I can say is that it’s a must try!

Overall I would highly recommend staying at the fivelements retreat.

Everything about this experience exceeded our
expectations.
People - Are absolutely amazing - best service we’ve EVER had. They are extremely responsive and accommodating.
The food is SO delicious and so healthy (and we aren't even vegan/vegetarian).
Room - Hillside pool suite was clean and spacious.
Treatments - we did everything. Elly gave the best facial I’ve ever had. I had been having breakouts and it cleared it all up with one treatment!
The Balinese Boreh was phenomenal - Elly and Nengah did such a great job.
Every day and night here was so relaxing.
There is nothing we would have changed about this resort. We cannot wait to return.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for such a unforgettable experience. ????????????❤️

Customer service is the best I’ve ever experienced. The employees in every department are beyond friendly and helpful. Everyone knew my name and provided service with a smile. They seemed like they truly enjoyed their job and wanted to provide great customer service. I ordered a floating breakfast and although I didn’t mention it was my birthday, they added a piece of birthday cake! I’m very impressed! My only area of concern was I wasn’t aware of how in nature the hotel was as it is a eco friendly wellness hotel. The rooms/suites are individual huts and with the high humidity it does cause a bit of a dampness feeling and a stuffy/damp smell. I did have a bit of an issue with very tiny insects and mosquitoes coming in since the cracks on the door are not sealed and I had to leave my pool deck windows open to help with ventilation of the mugginess. The rooms are cleaned and aired out daily and everything refreshed but you can only do so much in nature. The spa had the same outdoor element. I wish the massage tables used the massage table paper rather than towels and cloths as this led to them feeling kind of damp due to the humidity as well as insects and flies landing on the massage bed so it didn’t feel as hygienic as I would like having the room exposed to the air and elements. Otherwise I throughly enjoyed my stay! 4.5 out of 5 stars!!
